the man who saved fashion

i.ve been more than a couple of years waiting for him to show his seventh art skills. finally now, after saving a huge fashion gigant from a catastrophe, and after doing much good for design, tom ford comes up with this:

analog, pigeonhole and hours

shooting analog is something you don.t have the chance to do very often, that.s why doing it is such an experience. not being able to see the result inmediately and having to wait long before, turns the camera into a magical box that keeps all the work inside and hides it as an unspeakeble secret. today i worked with jonay pmatos, he.s one of those special fotographers who do analog.

what i like the most about photographers is their eyes, how they look at you, seeking for the perfect spot where to shoot at you; they always seem to be in another dimension. if you watch carefully, you can easily see how in some moments everything silences for them and they observe, hypnotized, the picture they will shoot.

there.s people who can.t stand those who do more than one thing, i think it.s because they can.t pigeonhole them, and being unable to lable them with just one name makes them real nervous. i find it imposible to do just one thing, that might be why i love all multidisciplinary artists... beside alive pictures filled with something very peculiar, jonay makes something you could call paintings, with color cellophane, that convert any sad white surface into one of those works of art that make you want to look at for hours and hours.

freak out

-'no puedo entenderlo'
(dicen)

-buu!

/ENGLISH!

can you see it? that look,
the look that many people give me when they see me.
i think they.re afraid of me.
-'i can.t undertand'
(they say)

i have no monthly salary or any kind of $ amount that will for sure come right into my bank account after every month. there.s only one sure thing, and that.s me feeling uncertainty.
the funniest part of my job is that no matter how well you do it, or how important what you achieve might be, after the day, when you say bye and the lights go down, you go back to the same condition you were before: unemployment. but this is an unemployment without free time or dole. an unemployment that absorves all your energy and spends it on doing fittings & trials and in selling your talent overexposing it as much as posible.

most people wake up every morning, breakfast and go to work. some days they got to run and get to the subway sweating, other days they can walk in calm and push, feeling a little bit more fresh, to be able to get into the crowded wagon.
the next day, they wake up again at the same time, breakfast, walk that same distance and sit down on the same chair as the day before... that same chair who everyday watches how they do the same over - and - over - again.
at the age of fourty most people have a steady job which they have had for at least half a decade and they carry out as if they were some kind of machine. a job that offers no posible expectancy of change and on top of that, stopped satisfying long ago.

-'hmmm, stability...  how fortunate i am!'
(that.s what they think every month when they see their salary)

there are two things that occupy my professional life. none of them will ever let me say those words. i.ll never be lucky enough to have a repetitive and automaton list of tasks that will turn into a paycheck at the end of the month.
i.ll never go to bed without being afraid of how i.ll make it through this month or the next, and i will never be able to stop thinking in new projects, because basically -for me- every new paycheck that i want, means a new project.

-'hmmm, overcoming!'
(that.s what i think)

i just feel life makes much more sense when not thinking it
as an eternal and slow loop :
m-o-n-d-a-y---t-u-e-s-d-a-y---w-e-d-n-e-s-d-a-y---t-h-u-r-s-d-a-y---f-r-i
DAY!>SATURDAY&>SUNDAY>-m-o-n...

it drives me nuts listening how people complain all through the week and how they beam with exaltation when they see the sun coming out every friday.

i love not having weekends, and knowing any day could be the important day of the week, the big day of the month. the day when i take the final step forward, the day i get a little closer to the goal.

i.ve many times thought about what i.d turn into if i lived in one of those loops. and that really does scare me. i see myself sitting on a sofa, with the 'project fridge' empty and all covered with tiredness because of hard working on somebody else.s dream, and i want to scream.

every once in a while i get the same compassionate question:
-'wouldn.t you like something a little more stable?'
-'no, i don.t...'
(i love seeing their reaction)
,: 0

now that the other day they gave me a little mirror at the openning of a new H&M store at madrid, i have the solution, -before- i had to turn around and look for a place where to reflect myself so to make sure i didn.t have anything on my face...

-buu!

raúl docasar.s frozen time

(editorial FHM SEP 09)

/
i met raúl docasar months ago. i was somewhere in the surroundings of barcelona, dressed up in 70.s fashion and companied by an amazing car which was taken out from the particular museum of a collector who looked very much as if he still lived back in 'GREASE' time.
i think it was after feeling the flash crashing into my eyes for the first time when the sky, which looked more like the dark seabed, started to release an unexpected water torrent that destroyed the whole production. if it hadn.t been for the understandable anger these caprices of nature cause, underneath that rain he could perfectly have improvised and captured one of those impressive images of him that imprison time as if it were something that could stop and poetize the universe between two moments, that gigant space of time in which history has already been written, that passes before our eyes like a simple instant.

hedi.s great eye

i just love that picture. well, as a matter of fact, i love all hedi slimane does. i was going through my fat picture folders today and after i stepped on this one, i coudn.t resist posting it.
check out both of his photodiariesfashion diary & hedi slimane diary. the two of them are great pieces of html that should be taken a look over regularly...
 /

and his pic for today (see it better at: www.hedislimane.com) this are the times when labeling a post as BLINDING ART gets its full meaning. if that isn.t poetry on photographic paper, i don.t know what would be so.
 /
